Q. What is the Wellness Center?

A. The Wellness Center is a state-of-the-art facility that will focus on rehabilitation, chronic disease prevention and health promotion. It will offer the community an opportunity to maintain their health by staying active. It will include educational programs, a medical fitness center, nutrition counseling and stress management for a whole body approach to achieving maximum wellness, and living the highest quality of life possible.

Q. Why is a Wellness Center is needed?

A. Our mission "to continually improve the health and quality of life of the people in the communities with serve" is firmly rooted in the concept of the wellness center.

Our community-like others throughout the nation-faces an epidemic of preventable diseases that threaten our quality of life. Diabetes, obesity, asthma, hypertension-to name just a few-are increasing despite all our medical advances. We believe we must move from the current system that treats disease to one that promotes healthier lifestyles and wiser personal choices. And, we believe we must do more to help those living with chronic diseases or disabilities to achieve a better quality of life. Our Wellness Center is devoted to that cause.

Q. Who can use the Wellness Center?

A. Queen of the Valley Hospital patients under a medical plan of care will be able to access the clinical services at the Wellness Center, like Physical Therapy, Cardiac Rehab and Diabetes Wellness.

The Wellness Center's Medical Fitness area will be available to all members of the community for a monthly fee.

Q. What is Medical Fitness?

A. Medical fitness is an integration of physical conditioning, nutrition education, and lifestyle counseling to maximize health conditions. It involves fitness goals that are guided more by health risk indicators and functional ability than muscular physique and physical strength.

Q. Is it necessary to have a chronic health condition to work out at the Wellness Center?

A. No. Many of the Wellness Center's programs and services will be geared toward addressing chronic health concerns, but we also realize the value of regular exercise in preventing health problems and will welcome members of the community to join as well as patients/former patients.

Q. How much will it cost?

A. To learn more about membership options and the monthly fee structure, please contact our Membership Director at 707-251-1395.

Q. When will the Wellness Center open?

A. Construction is right on schedule for our anticipated opening in Summer 2006.

Q. Can I sign up today?

A. Yes. Feel free to contact a Membership Director to obtain more information about membership options. To schedule an appointment, call 707-251-1395.

Q. Why build this medical fitness center instead of more in-patient beds? The hospital is already so crowded?

A. We realize that our inpatient areas are impacted. This community continues to grow. More and more patient services and being handled on an outpatient basis and we simply did not have the physical space to accommodate this need. In addition, many of our services would have been required to relocate from the original hospital building because of seismic mandates.

We are also pursuing several options to create new inpatient beds in our current facility. Finally, we hope that we will be able to impact inpatient admissions once our wellness approach takes hold.

Q. What are some of the programs that will be offered in the Wellness Center?

A. We hope to offer many programs designed to get you well and keep you well. Among some of the programs are:

  • Arthritis Management
  • Cardiac Rehabilitation
  • Cancer Wellness
  • Children/Adolescent Programs
  • Diabetes Wellness
  • Kid Fitness
