Q. What is the Wellness Center?
A. The Queen of the Valley Wellness Center is a state-of-the-art facility located on the campus of Queen of the Valley Medical Center. We provide a full range of rehabilitation, chronic disease management and prevention, health improvement, and medical and general fitness programs. Our services include general health and fitness education, individualized medical fitness training, nutrition counseling and stress management.
Q. Why is a Wellness Center needed?
A. The Wellness Center’s mission is "to continually improve the health and quality of life of the people in the communities with serve." Our community, like many others throughout the nation, faces an epidemic of preventable diseases. The prevalence of diseases such as diabetes, obesity and asthma is increasing rapidly, despite all our current medical advances. At the Wellness Center, we believe the only way to become a healthier community is to move from the current health system that focuses on treating diseases, toward one that promotes healthier lifestyles and wiser personal choices. We also believe more can be done to help those living with chronic diseases or disabilities. At the Wellness Center, we are devoted to that cause.
Q. Who can use the Wellness Center?
A. Queen of the Valley Medical Center patients under a medical plan of care will be able to access the clinical services including Physical Therapy, Cardiac Rehab and Diabetes Wellness at the Wellness Center. The Wellness Center's Medical Fitness area will also be available to all members of the community for a monthly fee.
Q. What is Medical Fitness?
A. Medical fitness is the integration of physical conditioning, nutrition education, and lifestyle counseling to maximize health conditions. It involves setting fitness goals that are determined more by health risk indicators and functional ability than by muscular physique and physical strength.
Q. Is it necessary to have a chronic health condition to work out at the Wellness Center?
A. No. Many of the Wellness Center's programs and services are focused on addressing chronic health concerns, but we also acknowledge the value of regular exercise in preventing health problems. We welcome members of the community to join as well as patients/former patients.
